Matt Taylor Illustration

My name is Matt Taylor, I'm an illustrator and I live by the sea. I like drawing pictures for money, riding my bike, walking on the beach, appreciating comic books and rummaging through thrift stores for old photos. This blog is for works in progress, assorted drawings that don't have a home yet and things which don't quite fit in my folio. Speaking of which, you can see my full blown folio by directing your website towards www.matttaylor.co.uk

    Brand. New. Website!

So January 1st heralded a return to working for myself again, and I thought it would be a good opportunity to redesign my website (but not too much because I was pretty happy with the old one - it just needed a little bit of a polish).

I am now available for freelance hire, so if you like what I do please don’t hesitate to get in touch - I will consider most things. You can drop me a message through Tumblr or send me an email at matt@matttaylor.co.uk - i look forwards to hearing from you!

I’ve been a proper full blown freelance illustrator for the last two and a half years now. Despite what aspirational blogs might lead you to believe, illustration is hard work - sustaining a client base, making sure you have enough work to keep you afloat, thinking three months ahead when you buy anything - not that it’s not rewarding, it is, but it’s hard work too. And while there is nothing else I’d rather be doing, it’s not very secure and times are tough in the creative industry.

Which is a round about way of saying - I’ve got a new job at a fab illustration led design agency. And come Monday, I will be back in the studio environment (an awesome studio) doing work for new clients (awesome clients) and for the time being at least my freelance adventure is over. But a new one is starting, and I can’t wait.

Unfortunately that means blogging, tweeting, and general posting of drawings will be slowing somewhat - of course maybe there will be more sketchbook doodles (as I’ll be trying to find a way to fill my time on the commute), we shall have to wait and see.

So as a last hurrah for a little while, here’s a picture - a leap of faith into the unknown. I’ll let you know how it goes…

    Into the wild blue yonder!
